January Recap

Well January has come and gone so I wanted to give a recap since, once again, I have not been keeping up with our blog. We started our New Year at Beavers Bend with our friends The Henrys. Beavers Bend has become one of our favorite places to go camping which really isn't camping. We stay in very nice cabins that are more like condos but we do things that you do when you go camping and so our friends call it camping. We spent New Year's weekend hiking, fishing, eating yummy food, hot tubbing, having s'mores, and playing games inside the cozy "cabin".

We also had our first snow of the season. Aaron and I had a date day while it was snowing and once we got home we spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the snow with the kids. The kids always have a blast in the snow. Well, at least Ethan does, Kate likes to be outside in it but isn't real big on touching it or playing in it.

Kate does like to eat the snow! This was right after she took a big bite of it!

We also had a 3 day weekend as a family on Martin Luther King day. We decided to actually use this as a teaching moment for the kids. Aaron and I realized that we didn't know as much as we probably should about Martin Luther King so we spent our Monday going to the movies, going to lunch, playing at the park, and ended our day with some books about MLK. It was fun to spend time as a family but to also learn what this holiday is all about and why we take time to celebrate it.

Daddy cooked breakfast for us on Monday. He found a recipe for a puffy oven pancake and it was delicious!

The last exciting thing that happened in January was Ethan losing his first tooth. He has been very concerned about this because we think he is a little late at losing his baby teeth. Most of his friends and the kids in his class have a mouth full of missing teeth and so he was starting to feel left out and embarrased that he had not lost one. He realized his first tooth was loose on Christmas Eve and then one night while him and Daddy were wrestling, a pillow was thrown and it knocked that tooth right out. Very exciting times around here! Ethan is not quite sure if he believes in the tooth fairy because it just doesn't make sense to him however, the tooth fairy was very generous and left him a 5 dollar bill. Once he got the money he believed a little more.
Next up is our Crazy Texas Ice Storm with Kate's birthday to follow.
